Elements of a Beatrix Potter Home

I do my best to live life like I live in a Beatrix Potter book. The illustrations evoke such a nostalgic, cosy feeling that I find myself wishing I could be a rabbit or a doormouse living under the root of a big fir tree.

Of course that’s not possible, so instead these are some human-friendly ways to live inspired by Beatrix Potter:

A Garden

It goes without saying that to feel like a Beatrix Potter home requires some kind of outdoor garden. This could be a large, English cottage style garden. But any space with greenery works, even if it’s just a greenhouse. Shrubbery feels very Beatrix Potter-esque to me, possibly because it provides such a good hiding spot for little bunnies.

Baked Goods

What Beatrix Potter home is complete without freshly baked goods? This doesn’t have to be a pie on the windowsill (but how charming is that?). A fresh load of bread or a warm batch of cookies will do just as well.

Fruits and Veggies

The simple things in life are the most enjoyable, and this goes for food as well. Beatrix Potter characters know this well and are always munching on something picked straight from the yard. What could be better than fresh fruit and veggies, especially if they were grown in your own garden? It’s the perfect snack to offer friends who come to visit.

A Cosy Bed

My favourite Beatrix Potter illustrations usually involve a mother tucking her little ones into the cosiest looking bed imaginable. It seems like the perfect end to every day, so why not enjoy that in your own home too? Add some extra blankets or a down comforter to your bed to make it as cosy as possible.

Somewhere to Read

Naturally, every Beatrix Potter home should prioritize the perfect spot to get comfy with a good book. Whether this is an armchair in a home library, a couch you sink into, or a window seat with the perfect view, it should be a spot that inspires you to spend hours enjoying your favourite stories.
